4head QuickStrip Research Report

In a recent trial of this new product from the manufacturers of the 4head stick, 90% of migraine sufferers found that this advanced hydro-gel strip helped soothe and cool the pain associated with migraine. Migraine sufferers are often looking for fast relief while they wait for their medication to kick in and two thirds of sufferers on the trial reported that the QuickStrip offered relief as quick as, or more quickly, than tablets. more...

The new Medical Advisory Board was launched at a meeting for migraine sufferers during Migraine Awareness Week. The Board consists of experts with a special interest in migraine and other headaches, from the perspective of a broad range of specialities including acupuncture, chiropractic, pharmacy, homeopathy, neurology, migraine in women and migraine in children. The Chairman of the Board, Dr Andrew Dowson, Director of Headache Services at King’s College Hospital in London gave a presentation regarding the results of the Association’s recent “Medication Survey” which formed the theme for this year’s Migraine Awareness Week campaign: “They don’t really understand my pain…. - Illness Perceptions Questionnaire – this study aimed to assess individuals’ perceptions of how their health impacts on their quality of life and looked at the health impact on social, physical and emotional areas.
- Preventative Migraine Treatment – this study investigated what patients expect from their preventative treatment and determined the levels of their satisfaction with its use.

Migraine is a complex and debilitating neurological condition which can be misunderstood by non sufferers and inappropriately treated by sufferers. Healthcare professionals are becoming increasingly aware of the need to support migraine sufferers in their need to develop an effective management plan. However an understanding of why medication is being prescribed and how this should be incorporated into a management plan can be a subject that is not tackled. The results for the MIST I (Migraine Intervention with STARFlex® Technology) trial in the UK, which investigated the possible connection between a minor heart defect, known as patent foramen ovale (PFO) and migraine with aura, were announced at the American College of Cardiology meeting in Atlanta, United States. Doctors Peter Wilmshurst and Andrew Dowson, co-primary investigators, presented the analysis and preliminary findings, which identified that over 60% of the people screened had a right to left shunt, a heart defect that allows blood to cross from the right to left chambers of the heart, bypassing the lungs. more...
