Lobbying for children with health conditions in education

Migraine Action has teamed up with Diabetes UK and thirty other charities to form an 'Alliance' which will be campaigning on behalf of children with health conditions over the coming months.

The Alliance is working to ensure that children receive the necessary support to enable them to participate fully in education.

A key activity will be to highlight the issues faced by children with health conditions, areas in need of change and to offer best practice suggestions to Parliamentarians.

The Alliance wants to see guidelines in force which will help to ensure that health outcomes are improved, that children reach their full potential and achieve the best possible physical, mental and economic well-being in later life: at present many children with health conditions, including migraine, face isolation, a lack of support, stigma,  bullying and avoidable ill health in education.

One of the first activities of the Alliance is a 'Question Time' event being held on 27th October 2009 in the House of Commons. The event will be hosted by Helen Southworth MP, who has been involved in the campaign to improve health support in education within the House of Commons.

Alliance members and children and young people with different health conditions are attending to ask questions of the Government. Migraine Action is inviting two young people along to this event to ask questions on behalf of young migraineurs in the UK. If you would like to attend, suggest a question for the event or find out more about the campaign please contact info@migraine.org.uk

We will continue to update you on this campaign over the coming months.
