Do you have more than 15 headache days a month? If so the University of Southampton would very much like to hear from you.

For the past three years, researchers at the university have investigated the impact of chronic headache and migraine upon daily functioning, with particular focus upon processes of attention and on coping strategies. Individuals who experience either chronic migraine or chronic tension-type headache (both classified as 15 or more headache days per month) are now being invited to take part in the latest investigation, which will form a major part of a PhD in Psychology.

Due to its intrusive nature, a wide range of negative consequences have been associated with migraine and chronic headache, including impact upon family life, work, education and income. In addition, individuals with migraine or chronic headache may also experience heightened levels of psychological distress.

However, a persons' behavioural and cognitive response to the pain is likely to affect the degree to which their condition impacts upon their daily life. The purpose of the current research is to provide important information related to the effects of pain on daily life.

Participation will require one visit to the School of Psychology at the University of Southampton, which will last approximately ninety minutes. During this time, you will be asked to complete a simple computer task, followed by a number of questionnaires designed to measure and evaluate aspects of pain, such as pain-coping strategies. Participant travel expenses up to the value of £20 will be reimbursed.

If you would be interested in participating, or would like further information, please contact Daniel Schoth by either telephone on 02380 595078, or email: es205@soton.ac.uk
