A year or so before I retired I told my boss that, among other things, I hoped to be able to help Migraine Action in some way: I had largely grown out of the condition, and very much wanted to help - even if indirectly - others to do the same.
I didn't at the time know just how I might provide that help, but when I saw an appeal in the Newsletter for potential new trustees it seemed likely to be the opportunity I wanted. (I had enjoyed some years as a school governor, and supposed that trustee work would be in many ways similar.) And so it proved! But, just as with being a school governor, I often felt I was learning more than I was giving, as the diverse backgrounds of my fellow trustees enriched our discussions, and, with luck, strengthened our decision-making.
