Migraine Awareness Week (MAW) is a yearly affair starting on the first Sunday in September. In 2010 it runs from Sunday 5th September to Saturday 11th September.
The week aims to raise awareness of this much-misunderstood condition and encourage those affected to seek information and advice to help manage their migraine. Each year Migraine Action distributes thousands of posters and leaflets to members and supporters, GP surgeries, pharmacies and other interested parties in the UK as part of the week's activities.
Migraines are misunderstood... help us to raise awareness
The support of members and migraineurs is key to the success of Migraine Awareness Week. By spreading the word you can increase understanding of the condition, the impact it can have on thousands of people, and help to lessen the feeling of isolation felt by many migraineurs.
Each year Migraine Action focuses on a particular theme during the week, along with discussing migraine generally.
In 2009 the theme was migraine in children and young people and during the week Migraine Action launched its 'Young Migraineurs Campaign'. For more information on the campaign visit www.migraine.org.uk/youngmigraineurs
The theme for Migraine Awareness Week 2010 is 'Migraine in the workplace' and we'd really appreciate it if you could distribute an awareness information pack to your local GP surgery, pharmacy or library. Please contact info@migraine.org.uk and let us know if you would be willing to do this; alternatively, you can request an information pack using the form below.
Why not also pencil the 5th - 11th September into your diary and consider organising a fundraising event or health day at your place of work during the week?

Migraine Heroes
As part of the activity for Migraine Awareness Week, Migraine Action runs its annual 'Migraine Heroes Healthcare Awards' which recognise the many individuals and teams who have helped people with migraine. This year there will be eight categories, including Best Carer, Best GP and Best Migraine Clinic. There are also two special categories for young migraineurs. The closing date for nominations will be 18th June 2010.
